Q: Why doesn't Andean's web site work for me?

A: Our web site works reliably if you have a web browser (a software program for searching the internet, such as MS Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator) that has its settings (also known as preferences) set as follows:

  • "Java (or Javascript) enabled"
  • "Accepts cookies from the originating web site (or all web sites, if you prefer)"

If you cannot see this graphic rotating from Amex to Mastercard to Visa to Discover/Novus, you do not have Java enabled. Microsoft had a disagreement with Sun Microsystems, the owners of Java. Ever since then, all Microsoft products have had their factory settings set with Java disabled. If you try our links and get an error message, such as "page cannot be found," you probably don't have Java enabled on your browser. You are missing out on a lot of the awesome things the internet has to offer, including this web site, if you do not have Java enabled.

Here's how to change your browser settings:
MS Internet Explorer v.6 and higher
Netscape Navigator v.6 and higher
  1. Select "tools" on Explorer's top menu bar.
  2. Select "internet options"
  3. Select the "advanced" tab
  4. Check the "use Java 2 v. 1.4" box.
  5. Check the "Java console enabled" box.
  6. Check the "Java logging enabled" box
  7. Next, select the "privacy" tab and move the slider to "medium."
  8. Click "apply" in the lower right corner.
  9. Click "okay" in the lower right side.
  10. Reboot your computer and come back to www.andean-inc.com.
  1. Select "edit" on Navigator's top menu bar.
  2. Select "preferences."
  3. In "category," select "privacy & security."
  4. Select "cookies."
  5. Select "enable cookies for the originating web site only."
  6. Also in "category," select "advanced."
  7. Select "enable Java."
  8. Click "okay" in the lower part of the window.
  9. You are ready to shop the Andean site.

Other versions of these browsers will have very similar steps, but not exactly the same as those listed above. You should be able to make the changes on your version of browser by using this information. You may find it helpful to print a copy of this page for reference as you change your settings.

Q: What is a good "first gun" for youth?

A: Any .177 caliber air rifle or .22 Long Rifle caliber rifle is a great first gun for youth. So is a .410 or 20 gauge shotgun. Any of these provides low recoil, so juniors can concentrate on improving their skill instead of fighting a bad "flinch." Pellets in .177 caliber are easy to get and are available in a wide range of designs. Ammunition in 20 gauge and .22 LR is very inexpensive and comes in many useful varieties. Ammo in .410 gauge is not cheap, but it is very mild in recoil. The thing to keep in mind is that a 20 gauge gun might weigh too much for small juniors; .410's are lighter in weight.

We have these recommendations:

  • Before your junior even gets his/her first gun, have them complete an NRA Basic Firearms Course in Rifle (preferred) or Shotgun. State Hunter Safety training is no substitute for what you get from the BFC!
  • For a first rifle, get either a .177 caliber air rifle, or a .22 rifle to learn the basics of marksmanship, and get a shotgun afterward. It is much easier to learn to be a good rifle shooter, then a good shotgun shooter than to do it the other way around! A bolt-action rifle is best, followed by a falling-block or break-action, single shot rifle. Getting a fast-shooting semi-automatic, pump, or lever action takes a junior's attention away from what's important - improving marksmanship through practicing the "fundamentals!"
  • For a first shotgun, get a .410 gauge for youth 12 and under. Most teenagers can hold up either a .410 or a 20 gauge.

Q: What is a good "first gun" for self defense?

A: For people with little or no firearms experience, we recommend a 20 gauge or 12 gauge shotgun. They have a great deal of stopping power, and intimidate "bad guys." If a shotgun is not to your liking, we recommend getting a double action revolver in .38 special caliber, or larger. Good revolver calibers include: .38 special, .357 magnum, 10mm, .44 special, .45 long colt, .45ACP.

Q: What is meant by the term "stopping power?"

A: "Stopping power" is a gun's ability to stop an attacker from attacking. It has a lot to do with what size of cartridge the gun shoots, the ammunition qualities, and where the attacker is shot. Examples of good stopping power guns are: 12 or 20 gauge shotgun, .44 or .45 caliber handguns.

Q: What is meant by the term "fire power?"

A: "Fire power" means having a lot of rounds of ammunition at your disposal. It is a subjective term, but can usually be though of as referring to firearms capable of shooting more than 10 rounds without reloading.

Q: What is a "defensive mind set?"

A: "Defensive mind set" means being aware of one's surroundings at all times. It includes having an "escape plan" so you can get yourself out of any potentially dangerous situation, whether in your home, outdoors, on the streets, or on the roadways.

Q: How can I buy a firearm from Andean, Inc.?

A: This is what we do to transfer a gun to an individual in the United States. It is required by Federal law to do it this way:
  • Find a licensed gun dealer in your area willing to do a transfer. This is your "transfer agent."
  • Have the transfer agent send a signed-in-ink copy of his license (FFL) to the gun dealer making the sale. This is the "selling dealer." If you are buying a gun from us, we are the selling dealer.
  • Send payment to the selling dealer. If you are buying a gun from us, you can purchase online, or call in your order by phone. You can pay with credit card, check, cashier's check, or money order. There is a 10 day hold on personal or business checks.
  • The selling dealer sends the gun and a signed-in-ink copy of his license (FFL) to the transfer agent.
  • The transfer agent contacts the buyer.
  • The transfer agent helps the buyer fill out all Federal, State, and local paperwork. The Federal Form 4473 must be completed. The paperwork process may include a background check on the buyer.
  • The buyer takes the gun after complying with all the regulations.

It is possible for a person who does not live in the USA to purchase a firearm here, but Andean does not have an import/export license. Andean does not export firearms to other countries. Non-USA-residents may not purchase a firearm in the USA and take delivery of it here; the firearm must be legally exported outside the USA to your country, in compliance with all laws of both countries.

These questions are asked on the Federal Firearms Transaction Record you fill out for each gun purchase or transfer:
  1. Last, First, Middle Name | Are you Male or Female
  2. Height
  3. Weight
  4. Race
